Established in 1975 Firle Place Horse Trials and Country Fair offers a showcase for some of the best riders in Southern England. Embracing three disciplines: the elegance of dressage, the skill of show jumping and the courage of riding a solid cross country course, eventing provides an exciting challenge for both horse and rider.
This combines with a Country Fair, incorporating a large French and English Food Market, Dog Show, Terrier Racing, Trade Stands, Traditional Fun Fair, Bar and Archery.
The hospitality marquee is by the show jumping and we offer a champagne reception and lunch, combined with course walks for sponsors and guests. The event also offers:
- An elegant 16th Century house and park set in beautiful grounds at the foot of the South Downs
- In excess of 5000 visitors attending over the two days
- 550 equestrian competitors from across Southern England
- An authentic French Food Market from Dieppe and an expanding English Food Market
- Stalls from Farmers Markets across the South East
- The competitiveness and skill of the horse trials, with dressage, show jumping and cross country
- A very popular Kennel Club licensed dog show with breed, agility, novelty and obedience classes
- The fun of ‘have a go’ archery on Firle Place lawns

Run on a voluntary basis, we raise funds for Hope in the Valley Riding for the Disabled and other local charities.
