Established in 1975 Firle Place Horse Trials and Country Fair offers a showcase for some of the best riders in Southern England. Embracing three disciplines: the elegance of dressage, the skill of show jumping and the courage of riding a solid cross country course, eventing provides an exciting challenge for both horse and rider.

This combines with a Country Fair, incorporating a large Food Market, Terrier, Lurcher and Dog Show, Longdog and Terrier Racing, Trade Stands, Traditional Fun Fair, fully licenced Bar and Archery.

The hospitality marquee is by the show jumping and we offer a champagne reception and lunch, combined with course walks for sponsors and guests. The event also offers:

  • An elegant 16th Century house and park set in beautiful grounds at the foot of the South Downs
  • In excess of 6000 visitors attending over the two days
  • Over 500 equestrian competitors from across Southern England
  • Stalls from Farmers Markets across the South East
  • The competitiveness and skill of the horse trials, with dressage, show jumping and cross country
  • A very popular Kennel Club licensed dog show with breed, agility, novelty and obedience classes, a Terrier Show and Longdog Racing and Lurcher Show with the Sussex Longdogs.
  • The fun of ‘have a go’ archery on Firle Place lawns
  • The noise and excitement of terrier and long dog racing
  • A Country Fair with a rich variety of trade stands and a traditional fun fair

Run on a voluntary basis, we raise funds for Hope in the Valley Riding for the Disabled, The Breast Cancer Campaign and other local charities.
