This weekend top riders from all over the world will be descending on a rural Sussex village for this year’s Firle Place International Horse Trials. Entrants include top New Zealand riders Sir Mark Todd CBE and this year’s highly celebrated Badminton winner, Jock Paget, locally based Francis Whittington, Olympian Lucinda Fredericks plus Shropshire-based champion Oliver Townend and China’s Alex Hua Tian. Now in its 37th year, the jam-packed event will see around 600 horses compete at dressage, showjumping and cross-country on the 5,000-acre estate on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September. Entry is £5 on Saturday and £10 per car on Sunday.
