Thank you to all who came to help and compete, and make the weekend such a huge success. Once we have all recovered, I will post some of the images and results from the horse trials and the 'dog heaven' that made such a huge contribution to the event's success.

The gundog scurry was a wonderful addition to the dog events, and watching the huge variety of dogs enjoying themselves, along with their owners, certainly helped to make Sunday an fun day.

Elaine Wilson and JJ complete on their dressage score to win the Mitsubishi Motors BE100 Regional Final, Supported by Rainbow Equine who donated some wonderful rugs for the nine qualifiers - Elaine seen here leading the victory gallop around the show jumping arena!

Gundog Scurry Results

A light drizzle and a keen wind couldn't dampen the spirits of Sundays gundog scurry participants.  We had a great day and managed to raise £375 for the Hope Valley Riding School for the Disabled and the Breast Cancer Campaign.

Our thanks to David and Dawn Jarvis from Oscar Petfoods for sponsoring the prizes and to our band of merry helpers who were on hand from very early to quite late making sure everything ran smoothly, thank you.

Winners are listed below followed by photographs of some of our prizewinners.

Exciting News in 2009

We will be running Regional Finals for the Mitsubishi Motors BE90 (Intro) and BE100 (PreNovice) Championships which will be held at Badminton in 2010. As if getting to splash through the famous Badminton lake is not enough (ovea course designed and built by our course designers, Willis Brothers) Rainbow Equine is generously supporting the Mitsubishi Motors BE100 Regional Final with beautiful new commemorative rugs for the qualifiers. They are also giving a rug to the winner of every section:

We are pleased to welcome Rainbow Equine as a new sponsor. Says director Kerry Viney, "We are delighted to be sponsoring the BE100 Regional Final at Firle Place Horse Trials. We will be providing beautiful commemorative show rugs for the first five riders to qualify for the final and to the winners in all other sections. It is important for us in our launch year to be supporting such a great local event and the grassroots level of Eventing". She adds, “The opportunity to compete at Badminton 2010 is a huge incentive for any rider. I think that its is an excellent opportunity for us to be associated with such a great competition, and we look forward to what we hope will be a hotly contested regional final”.

We are also delighted to welcome the ochre organisation as a new Novice Section sponsor for 2009. Says Managing Director Sharon Bayliss, " the ochre organisation is a business transformation consultancy based in the south-east.  It was important to us to sponsor Firle this year as our aim is to work with and support where necessary our local community.  We look forward to what I am sure will be an enjoyable event for competitor and spectator alike."

Both David and I would like to thank the whole team for such a lovely event at Firle.

We avoided our more local "Gatcombe" to make the trip down to Sussex - and were delighted
that both horses were placed - especially as they earned us your lovely tumblers - thank you.

We really enjoyed the XC course - we were pleased to find that it had sufficient challenges to
make the horses and rider  "think" - but with a super gallop home!!

Friendly efficient stewarding for all phases always helps the day go well and how nice to feel a bit of atmosphere in the show jumping ring with all the stands around.

We hope to be back again in the future - and thank you all very much for your hard work.
David (rider) and Maggie Doel

Thanks very much for a great day. The children had great time too. Can't belive there were 25 in the dog classes. Will have to wash the dog next year!
Annette Philpot

Thank you very much for a fantastic weekend at Firle.  Although my results page does not look that great, both of my horses and more importantly I learnt loads from the weekend.

The weather on saturday was beautiful and I wasl ucky enough to finish before it got too hot.  Unfortunately on sunday I choose to walk the course and was at the further point when the heavens opened.  Nevermind at least when I was riding I managed to compete in the dry. Thanks again and roll on next year.
Thanks
Sonia Chapman

Thank you and all your helpers for a great competition at Firle Place at the weekend. Moving the show jumping and trade stands up to the house has transformed the event and has made it into one of the best Novice venues.
Jeremy Samuels, competitor

Many thanks to you and all your staff and helpers for organising such a brilliant event. The whole thing just keeps getting bigger and better each year and it really makes it feel you've achieved something showjumping with all the stands and people etc. all around. Great atmosphere!

Thanks for a wonderful day.... The food was brilliant and what can I say about the fence, superb, really really pleased.  Any chance of the same fence next year?  We sat there for about two hours sipping Pimms until it ran out, wonderful. Thanks again and could you please pass out thanks to everyone in the marquee.
Liz Trigwell, Freeman Forman Ltd

"The marquee, food, service - not forgetting the lavatories - was nothing short of spectacular"

Roger Rawlings, Swift Alarms

(The marquees and toilets are provided by our long term sponsor, Village Marquees, who have been very generous to the event over the years. We recommend them!)

Become a helper:
"It is such a friendly event to help at and the delicious food and drink all the helpers are given is out of this world. I always enjoy my day at Firle; both helping and shopping!"
